Trinidadian Ralph Ramdhan appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts to answer to an immigration charge. Ramdhan is accused of a double murder in the neighbouring Republic. He is said to have fled to Guyana.
Particulars of the charge stated that between November 23, 2014 and May 13, 2015 at Charity Essequibo, he entered Guyana by sea and disembarked without presenting himself to an Immigration Officer.
Ramdhan, 50, also known as Vernon Rampersaud, pleaded guilty to the charge after it was read to him by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
Police Prosecutor, Corporal Bharrat Mangru told the court that the defendant is wanted in Trinidad for two murders. He added that through the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) a request was made for an investigation to be launched.
The defendant was fined $30,000 with an alternative of three months’ imprisonment. The Magistrate advised the Prosecutor to make an application for the defendant to be deported. Mangru indicated to the court that an application will be made to the Ministry of Home Affairs, as it relates to the matter.
The fugitive will be kept in police custody at the Brickdam Police Station until deportation.
According to police, Ramdhan, who is in Guyana illegally, was nabbed from a city hotel on Thursday. He is currently wanted in Trinidad for a double homicide committed during 2014. He was captured a few days ago by ranks of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) with the aid of the INTERPOL.
