Toshao of Kwebana Village, located in Region One, Godfrey Wilson, has since condemned actions by the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs, after several solar panels and a tractor were handed over to a committee that consists of mostly supporters of the ruling party.
The Toshao said that the Village Council which consists of himself and other councilors, is tasked with the responsibility of handling the affairs of the village. As such, the equipment should have been given to the council.
During an interview, Wilson explained that the tractor given to the community will not be able to function because it can only be operated in a programmed design by the council.
Wilson has since denounced disrespectful and insulting remarks made by the Regional Chairman, Paul Pierre and the Community Development Officer (CDO) Zola Rodrigues.
According to Wilson, the comments were made at a public meeting held by the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs at the village’s playground on Friday.
Wilson added that he and his Councilors are being victimized by the Chairman and CDO.
He said that at the meeting the Chairman and the CDO accused him, other Toshaos and Councilors of not carrying out their functions.
However, Wilson said that the remarks are not true.
Wilson feels as though he is being undermined since the Regional Chairman, and CDO prefer to work with Deputy Toshao, Maureen Henry, who he said, is a supporter of the ruling party.
Kwebana has a population of about 800 people with 300 eligible voters.
