Guyana National Industrial Corporation SC (GNICSC) and Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) registered victories, while Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) and Demerara Cricket Club played to a draw when the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA)/Noble House Sea Foods second division two-day tournament continued last weekend.
At Gandhi Youth Organisation ground, GNIC overcame Ace Warriors by six wickets. Ace Warriors batted first and were sent packing for 108. Murtland Ward 24, Delon Azore 23 and Christopher Dick 10 were the only batsmen that reached double figures as Clyde Butts bagged 5-9 and Jermain Grosvenor 3-19.
GNIC declared on 228-5 in reply. Ryan Shun struck 77, Grosvenor 61 and Joshua Persaud 41. Ward took 2-49 for Ace Warriors who scored 185-9 innings closed, batting a second time. Ward slammed 71; Roger Arons got 29 and Keon George 24. Orlando Kirton, Grosvenor and Sheldon Chapman had two scalps each. Set 64 to win, GNIC reached their target for the loss of four wickets, ending on 64-4 with Grosvenor scoring 27 not out. Ward took three wickets.
At Bourda, GCC beat Sophia by an innings and 11 runs. Sophia were routed for 109, taking first strike. Leroy Massiah hit 32 and Zalim Rasheed 17. Tariq Dharanlall snared 4-18, Stephon Wilson 3-26 and Nkosie Julian 2-26.
GCC declared at 244-6 in response. Martin Pestano Bell stroked an unbeaten 130, while Omesh Budram made 22, Wilson 19 and Manny Forde 18. Khalil Duncan took two wickets. Trailing by 145, Sophia were bowled out for 124 in their second innings. Anand Persaud made 26 as Deonarine Seegobin grabbed 5-21, Dharanlall 2-20 and Wilson 2-22.
At DCC, Malteenoes SC made 178 all out in 44.3 overs, in their first ininngs. Imran Hassan cracked 84 and Joel Allen 20 not out. Sherfene Rutherford grabbed 4-45 and Carlton Jacques 3-35 including a hat trick. DCC were bowled out for 119 in response.
Tevin Imlach got 24; Steven Sankar claimed 4-21 while Vishal Narayan had three and Hassan two. MSC were skittled for 140 in their second turn at the crease. Hassan struck 61; Dennis Squires and Sagar Hathiramani picked up three wickets apiece.
Needing 200 to win in the final session, DCC finished on 197-6 in 15.5 overs. Atonell Atwell slammed 84 not out and Rutherford supported with 65. Steven Sankar took 2-47.
