Guyana under-19 Skipper Brain Sattaur slaughtered the University of Guyana (UG)
Students with an explosive 38- ball 74 in the third round of the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) Carib Beer T20 cricket competition at the World famous GCC Bourda to spearhead DCC to a comprehensive 116-run victory over UG yesterday.
The 19-year-old left-hander clobbered seven fours and five colossal sixes while Trevon Grifftith, who stroked five fours and a six in 42 from 25 balls, added 82 in 7.2 overs with Sattaur for the first wicket before Chris Barnwell’s blistering 44 from just 16 including two fours and four sixes spurred DCC to 203-8 with spinner Pavindralall Persaud finishing with 5-30 for the UG X1 who were restricted to 87-9 when their 20 overs expired.
UG were given a solid 49-run opening stand by Leon Williams (28) and Garfield Douglas (35) before seven wickets tumbled for 15 runs after Douglas was taken in the deep off left-arm back-of-the arm spinner Totaram Bishun at 72-3.Bishun had 4-22 and got support from Sherfane Rutherford who captured 4-15.
DCC won the toss in sweltering heat and opted to bat first on a flat track and fast outfield and Griffith got
going with a spanking cover driven boundary off Michael Shalim before Sattaur dumped left-arm pacer Gavin Moriah for a one bounce four to the backward point boundary and smashing him for a flat six over cover as DCC began their innings like a house of fire.
Sattaur tucked into Shalim and thumped him for six before stroking the bowler over his head for four to post the 50 in 4.4 overs and then celebrated with a scorching four in an over which cost 18 runs.
Griffith was not to be outgunned and slapped Lloyd George for a glorious four before a majestic cover drive reached the boundary like a bullet as the carnage continued unabated.
Sattaur then swept Royan McCall on top of the Players’ Pavilion before Griffith was taken at deep cover off George and Sattaur was removed by Persaud at 126-2 in the 13th over. Kevin Boodie (9) was stumped off Persaud at 151-3 before Barnwell, with scores of 82 against GYO and 117 against Everest in his two matches in the tournament, joined in the runs feast before he fell to Persaud who bowled impressively and also got rid of Kemo Paul (3) and Kemol Savory (0). Moriah captured two quick wickets to stem the runs flow but the damage had already been done.
The competition continues today at 13:30hrs at Everest GCC playing GYO.
