Bail was set to the tune of $50,000 on Thursday by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, for an alleged gold chain thief.
Akeem Hamer, of 20 Durban Street, Wortmanville, pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that on May 6 at Stabroek Market, he stole from Savitri Devi John, one gold band worth $50,000, along with one bangle valued $1,200.
The prosecution did not object to bail. Hamer, who told the court that he has no pending or previous matters, was ordered to return to court on May 22.
