Two women were remanded to prison on Wednesday after they pleaded not guilty to a drug trafficking charge, which was read to them by Magistrate Annette Singh.
Susie Ann Rhode and her aunt, Andrea Cupidore, of 64 Parker Street, Providence, denied the allegation that on May 1, at Providence, they had 33 grammes of cannabis in their possession for the purpose of trafficking.
The prosecution told the court that on the day in question around 15:30hrs, police from the Brickdam Police Station conducted a joint service exercise in providence. They went to the home of the defendants and conducted a search in a bedroom. The illicit substance was found in a transparent bag.
They were told of the offence and under caution Rhode admitted that the drug belonged to her.
Bail was opposed by the prosecution because no special reasons were provided to satisfy the court.
The matter will be called again at the Providence Magistrate’s Court on June 8.
