Mangal, Haniff, Bacchus and Pandit Persaud shines
Fantastic rivalry and keen and enjoyable competitiveness marked the 3rd annual Beacon Ministries sponsored Golf tournament which was contested on Saturday at the Lusignan Golf Club.
Dr London and the winners, seated from left to right are Christine Sukhram, Lochan Ramroop and Shanella Webster; Standing front row – Jetendra Dhanpat, Mike Mangal, David Mohamad, Kishan Bacchus, Sookram Deosarran, and Rabindranauth Persaud; Standing back row – Kalyan Tiwari, Patrick Prashad, Dr Philbert London, Richard Haniff and Avinda Kishore.
Winners in the handicap groups were: 0 – 9 Category: 1st Mike Mangal 66/9, 2nd Patrick Prashad 70/9, 3rd Christine Sukhram 71/9. In the 10 – 18 Category: 1st Richard Haniff 65/18, 2nd Kalyan Tiwari 65/18, 3rd Kishan Bacchus 66/17. In the 19 – 38 Category: 1st Rabindranauth ‘Pandit Ravi’ Persaud 68/25, 2nd Lochan Ramroop 68/28, 3rd Shanella Webster 68/21.
Winner of the Longest Drive play-off was Avinda Kishore 260 yards followed by Richard Haniff 250 yards and Jetendra ‘Naro’ Dhanpat 246 yards in that order. The Nearest to the Pin winner was Sookram ‘Double Hand’ Deosarran, 2nd Patrick Prashad and 3rd David Mohamad.
The Overall Best Net trophy went to Richard Haniff with Kalyan Tiwari 2nd and Mike Mangal 3rd. In addition to the trophies presented to the 1st to 3rd place golfers in the six categories, the Overall Best Net winners also received other prizes.
In his congratulatory remarks to the winners, Dr Philbert London, founder and presiding head of Beacon Ministries encouraged golfers to strive for the best performance.
London pointed out that the Gospel of Jesus Christ allows the individual to be involved in sport and other social activities, and offered the Good News of hope and love for those who may have through ignorance or personal experience felt hopeless or rejected because of shortcomings in their life.
Commenting on the prizes, London added, “We believe that those who do well should be rewarded and who knows, maybe someday Beacon Ministries will provide prizes for 1st to 6th places so that many more participants will be rewarded.”
Club President David Mohamad expressed gratitude to Dr London for a well-coordinated tournament, and for the innovative Longest Drive and Nearest to The Pin competitions. He noted that he had gleaned ideas for innovations in other tournaments.
Club Captain Chatterpaul ‘Chen’ Deo remarked that there were so many trophies it would be good if next year’s Beacon Ministries Tournament is done over two days.
