The Fyrish Black Sharks were in destructive mood as they demolished the Ithaca Hardliners 78-43 in the latest match of the ongoing NPG Packaging First division Basketball competition being played in Berbice. The game
was played at the Ithaca Basketball court West Bank Berbice.
Black Sharks were ominous from the start as they quickly got into their strike and conducted a steady wave a raids on the Hardliners, softening them in the process. By the end of the first quarter the Black Sharks were ready to devour the hapless hardliners as they had a runaway 24-07 lead. There was more pummeling in the second stanza as the Black Sharks swam away to a 38-15 lead.
By the Third quarter Black Sharks were in destructive mood as they completely demolished their wounded opponents for an embarrassing 58-27 lead. The final piece was more of the same as the Black Sharks by then were all over their opponents, sinking them deeper for the 78-43 destruction.
The Fyrish Black Sharks charge was lead by Linden Joseph with 24, Dessie Douglas 14 and Saydron Fortune 08. Leading the resistance for the Ithaca Hardliners were Kester Sinclair 13 and Kevin Perry 10.
The competition continues on Sunday with Canje Knights travelling to West Berbice to battle with Hopetown Stealers at the Ithaca Basketball court.
The tournament which is organised and coordinated by sports enthusiast Vibert Garrett has seven teams participating with the teams being placed into two groups.
The participating teams in Group A are Rose Hall Jammers of Corentyne, Hope Town Stealers of West Berbice and Canje Knights of East Canje. Group B is made up of New Amsterdam Warriors and Smythfield Rockers of New Amsterdam, Fyrish Black Sharks of Corentyne and Ithaca Hardliners of West Berbice. (Samuel Whyte)
