Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry on Tuesday sentenced a man to three years in prison on a drug trafficking charge.
Patrick Simon, 28, pleaded guilty to the charge which stated that on May 2, at Bourda Market, he had 1.75 grammes of cocaine in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.
The prosecution told the court that on the day in question, at around 09:00hrs, the police were on patrol in the Bourda Market area, when the defendant was stopped and searched. The police found a black plastic bag in the defendant’s waist. The bag was searched and several small whitish rock-like substances were found.
Simon was told of the offence, taken to the station then arrested and charged. The unrepresented man was also ordered to pay a fine of $30,000.
