Even though the two finalists have already secured their spots in the national playoffs which ultimately gives them a chance to compete for the right to represent Guyana at the Caribbean Championship set for June in Jamaica, both Amelia’s Ward Russians and Wisroc still have every incentive to put on a good show for the anticipated large crowd tonight, at the Mackenzie Market Tarmac.
After winning in contrasting styles in their semi-final encounters, the two combatants will be aiming to bring the curtains down on the Linden segment of the Guinness ‘Greatest of de Streets’ Competition by producing a great final for the top prize of $300,000 and the beautiful trophy.
Russians who survived a nerve tingling sudden death penalty shootout against a strong Retrieve Unknowns unit will no doubt be looking to finish the game in regulation time and save their supporters the anguish of having to endure the trauma of back to back shootouts.
The skilful Terrence Aaron will be tasked with the huge responsibility of leading his side to victory along with support from the experienced Travis Waterton.
On the other hand, Wisroc will be depending on the in-form Omar Archer to duplicate his semi-final performance when he was the lone marksman in their clash against Star Boyz.
In the playoff for third place, Retrieve Unknowns who were a bit unlucky not to be vying for the title will need to put aside that disappointment in their battle against Star Boyz too might be feeling hard done after allowing a solitary goal to cause their exit from the championship game.
Darrel George and Steffon Tappin will be the players expected to lead Unknowns charge to salvage some pride, while Star Boyz is one of those teams that rely on teamwork to get them over the line.
Both games should provide enough fireworks to bring an exciting conclusion to the competition.
The losing finalist will take home $150,000, third and fourth placed teams $100,000 and $75,000 respectively.
