Wakenaam, Leguan, East Bank and Central Essequibo recorded victories when the Essequibo Cricket Board
(ECB)/Busta 50-over festival commenced yesterday.
At Pomona, Wakenaam defeated Bartica by seven runs. Batting first Wakenaam scored 157 all out in 35.3 overs. Navishaul Pooran struck 56 and Ryan Adams 21. Extras assisted with 26 as Roopesh Motilall claimed 3-26. Bartica were bowled out for 150 in 36 overs in reply. Royce Evans scored 36; Ricardo Adams captured 3-30, while Keemo Paul, Imran Khan and Nokta Moses had two each. The game was reduced to 40 overs.
At New Opportunity Corps ground, Leguan overcame South Essequibo by four wickets. South batted first and were sent packing for 148 in 32 overs. Ricardo Peters slammed 64 and Akieni Adams made 21. Kevin Gordon snared 4-20 and Aseeb Khan 3-23. Leguan responded with 149-6 in 34 overs. Arjune Ajmal cracked 35, Zaheer Razack 35 not out, Huchumchand Savitir 30 and Mustapha Zaman 18. Peters claimed three wickets and Royan Fredericks two.
At Imam Bacchus, Affiance, East Bank got the better of Pomeroon by 141 runs. East Bank took first strike and rattled up 261-8 off their reduced quota of 40 overs. Kemol Savory led with 71; Sheldon Alexander made 67 and Kevon Boodie 62. E. Persaud, M. Singh and E. Melville picked up two scalps apiece. Pomeroon were routed for 120 in 27 overs in reply. Y. Benjamin got 19 as Hemchand Persaud grabbed 5-19, Brian Hubbard 3-24 and Trevon Garraway 2-16.
Central beat North Essequibo in their encounter at Anna Regina. The competition continues today with Wakenaam playing East Bank at Pomona and Leguan facing Central at Imam Bacchus in the semi finals.
