Trinity Grid Holdings (TGH) Pacesetters defeated home side, Pepsi Sonics 64-54 in an Under-23 game Wednesday night when the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA) ‘King of the Hard Court’ Championship continued at the National Gymnasium.
Nathan Saul scored 20 points while Jaleel Duke had 19 points for Pacesetters. For the home-based, Pepsi Sonics, Quincy Wright scored 16 points while Paul Schultz and Drexel Amsterdam had 13 points apiece.
Sonics were leading 27-23 at halftime, but Pacesetters reclaimed the initiative in the third quarter with Duke and Marvin Durant leading them to a 47-41 advantage. Pacesetters closed out the game with Duke scoring nine points in the last quarter.
In the first game of the night, Raven’s defeated Plaisance Guardians 67-58 in another U-23 game at the same location.
Murtland Ward led with 20 points in the win, while Sebastian Luke had 18 points for Ravens. In addition, Carlos Edwards and Treston Burnette contributed 14 and 10 points respectively for Ravens.
Nduka Horatio scored 19 points for Guardians with Malcolm Ponder and Kelvin Yorrick adding 12 and 10 points respectively.
The competition continues today at the same venue. Eagles will play Colts in an opening U-23 game at 6pm, while Melanie Patriots comes up against Republic Bank Nets in another U-23 game before the University of Guyana take on West Side Jammers.
