Set to increase competitiveness by grouping handicappers into 3 Flights, the now annual Beacon Ministries sponsored tournament will take place tomorrow and provide a range of some 18 prizes as the sponsor introduces some new challenges in the tournament. Head of Beacon Ministries, Dr Philbert London, himself an ardent golfer, indicates that there will be prizes for the 1st to 3rd place winners in six different areas!
Firstly, handicaps will be grouped in the 0 – 9, 10 – 18, and 19 – 28 categories or Flights so that winners in each Flight will be rewarded. Secondly, there will be a Longest Drive play-off between the 6 best Longest Drivers during the competition. Thirdly there will be a Nearest to the Pin playoff between the 6 golfers Nearest to the Pin during the tournament. Finally, there will be prizes for the 3 golfers with the overall Best Net.
Beacon Ministries, the home of the Television Broadcast Revelation & Power, has been much involved in promoting golf in Guyana, Dr London himself having served for some time as Vice President of the Lusignan Golf Club. The Ministry perceives that the Gospel of Jesus Christ allows the individual to be involved in sport and other social activities, and within there to promote the Good News of hope and love for those who may have through ignorance or personal experience felt hopeless or rejected because of shortcomings in their life.
Club President David Mohamad considers the goodwill, camaraderie and enthusiasm golfers display during the Beacon Ministries Tournaments as a great fillip for the development of the sport in Guyana.
Tee-off time is set for 10:30 a.m. The public is invited to view this tournament – like all other tournaments at the Lusignan Golf Course – free of charge.
