Two men were brought before the court yesterday to answer to a charge of unlawful possession of firearm and ammunition.
Father and son, Michael Sipindhino and Ashel Sipindhino, 21, denied the allegation which stated that on April 23, at Nappy Village, they had in their possession two 20 gauge live cartridges and three 16 gauge live cartridges, without being the holders of firearm licences.
It was further alleged that on the day in question at the same location they had one rifle and a shotgun in their possession, without being the holders of firearm licences.
The prosecution told the court that on the day in question, the police were on patrol when they conducted a search on the defendants’ home. It was during the search that the illegal guns and ammunition were found.
Attorney Peter Hugh, who assisted the men with their bail application, told the court that both accused are farmers and further stated that the house is occupied by nine other persons.
Police Corporal, Sean Gonsalves objected to the father being released on bail. During his submission, he informed the court that the man admitted to owning the illegal gun and ammo under caution.
Subsequently, the father was remanded to prison while his son was ordered to post bail in the sum of $100,000.
The matter will be called again on June 1, at the Lethem Magistrate’s Court.
