RHTYSC /Ansa McAl May Day Cup…
Preparations for the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club May Day Ansa McAl five overs cricket tournament is progressing smoothly with four teams declaring their squads for the twelve teams tournament. Tamarind Root of Hampshire, Courtland, Chesney and Young Warriors of Cumberland, Canje have submitted teams that include some of the top Second Division players in the ancient county.
Young Warriors would be spearheaded by veterans Anil Beharry and Ishwar Singh and they would be supported by the promising Alex Algu, Mortimer Fraser, Wahid Edwards and Balram Samaroo. Chesney would feature former Guyana 20/20 player Imran Khan and former Berbice wicketkeeper/batsman Shastri Persaud. A powerful Courtland team would be led by hard hitting all rounder John Percival and includes former national Under-19 player Leroy Bristol and First Division players Troy Mathieson and Keon Sinclair. Tamarind Root would depend heavily on Adrian Singh, Mahendra Ramdihal, Dilip Ramsammy and guest player Linden Austin.
RHTYSC Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster, who is spearheading the Silver Jubilee event, said that barring the weather, all plans are in place for a highly successful one day tournament. The twelve teams – Rose Hall Town Bakewell ‘A’, Rose Hall Town Bakewell ‘B’, Young Warriors, Courtland, Fyrish, Chesney, Albion, Tamarind Root, Tain Block 4, Whim, Yakusari and Susannah are asked to report to the Area ‘H’ Ground at 8:00 am for a 9:00 am start. The winning team would receive $70,000 and a trophy, the Runner Up $30,000 and trophy, the losing semi-finalist $20,000, while the Man of the Finals would receive $10,000.
Funds raised from the day’s event would be used for the RHTYSC Cricket Development Programme and “Say No to Drugs and Yes to Education” campaign.
