Feverish play and sublime finishing were the order of day four of the Edward Screw
Richmond Memorial Football tournament on Thursday last at the Wisburg School ground. Notching up wins were Linden Technical Institute (LTI) and Wisburg Secondary who have both strengthened their bid for the final four playoffs.
In the feature encounter, Wisburg were too hot for New Silvercity to handle and won the clash 5-2. Lack of focus in the defensive third and poor goalkeeping cost New Silvercity the game. However, Wisburg were also efficient with their free kicks, open play and even in the air with their heading.
The winners were led by a brace of goals from Orlando Adams (8, 57), Tshadeki Whitehead was on target in the 23rd minute, Akeine Chapman in the 46th minute and Eldridge Williams in the 61st from the penalty spot.
Scoring for New Silvercity were Shane Haynes in the 24th minute and Martin Gullin in the 59th minute.
LTI took care of business against a determined Harmony Secondary 2-0; the losing side would have been written off due to the physical stature but they battled and were worthy competitors.
Defensive lapses on their part allowed Mark McLean in the 54th minute and Collis Benn in the 62nd from the penalty spot to design the win for LTI.
As the tournament gets more interesting with semi final spots at stake, some interesting games are set for next week. Harmony Secondary will take on Christianburg/Wismar, while Wisburg oppose Marcia Craig’s Educational Institute.
