With teams being presented the opportunity of an extra day to plan and prepare strategies after the inclement weather forced the organisers to cancel yesterday’s start of the Round of 16 phase, fans will look forward to another night of sizzling action as the Busta Soft Shoe Football Competition resumes tonight, at the GFC ground.
In the opening matchup at 20:45hrs, Cross Street square off against Alexander Village and this encounter should see the latter start as favourites to advance following their impressive showing display in a close loss to a strong Sparta Boss outfit in their previous game.
Cross Street also suffered a loss in their previous clash against Stevedore Housing Scheme and will have to make significant improvements to survive a very good Alexander Village unit, especially with Leon Yaw showing good form.
Ballerz and Queen Street Tiger Bay take to the field after and this should definitely be a humdinger with the caliber of players on each side. Steffon and Amos Ramsay have been in prolific form and should they be allowed to duplicate their last performance then Queen Street could be in for some real trouble.
On the other hand, as long as the diminutive Deon Alfred is on the pitch any opposition could suffer at the hands of his silky skills. West Front Road’s pride might have been a bit bruised after their 1-1 draw against Queen Street in their last encounter, but every team in this competition knows of their capability when they are clicking and they often do.
Their talisman Hubert Pedro must be oozing with confidence following a spectacular strike in the last game, one that has been touted as the best seen in the competition to date, while Michael Oie, Jamal and Michael Pedro are all lethal and very consistent.
On the other hand their opponent North East La Penitence is no slouch either and West Front Road will be advised not to take them lightly. Shaquille Brown and Omari Wilson have been their leading marksmen of late and have proven to be a handful as Holmes Street found out so a closely fought encounter is envisaged.
The final game of the night between Festival City and Albouystown could best be described as a brawler, but one that should see the former start as favourite. Solomon Austin, Stellon David, Dwayne Lawrence, Eon Alleyne and Daniel Favourite are no joke to contend with and must start as the clear frontrunner to progress.
Albouystown is traditionally a powerhouse in this type of format and their chances of scoring an upset rest on the shoulders of the creative Roy Cassou and the lanky Marlon Nedd.
