Under the theme: ‘We love the Community’, Guyana’s Police Force and members
of the Central Georgetown community will be holding an Appreciation Day of Sports on Saturday between Leopold and Breda Streets beginning at 11am.
Facilitator of the Central Georgetown Police Youth Group, Colin Haynes with supervision from Deputy Superintendent of Guyana Police Force, Anthony Vanderhyden will be coordinating the event that is expected to conclude at midnight Saturday.
The events are being held under the auspices of The Commander of ‘A’ Division, Clifton Hicken to “further strengthen the bond being created between the Guyana Police Force, and members of the community, especially the Central Georgetown area”.
“This venture will see community members traversing Leopold Street with activities to engage them from Breda to George Streets,” a release from the Youth Group continued.
A football match between Upper and Lower Leopold Street for the Commander’s Trophy slated to commence at 6pm is among the activities on the day. The winning team pockets the first prize of $20,000 and trophy compliments of Assistant Commissioner, Hicken.
In addition, there will be a basketball game between Sophia and Leopold Street scheduled for 5pm as well as several road races for the children of the community slated for earlier in the day.
Gold Rock, Afrykan Vibes and Super Cat One-man Band will be providing the entertainment for the day’s activities.
Banks DIH Limited and Nigel’s Supermarket are among the sponsors.
