Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry remanded a Linden saw operator to prison yesterday, after
the police alleged he had an unlicenced gun in his possession.
Wesley Campbell, who was unrepresented, denied the allegation which stated that on December 9, 2014, at Old Plain Sight Road, Kwakwani, he had one 12-gauge, single-barrel shotgun.
Police Prosecutor, Shawn Gonsalves related to the court that the police acting on information went to the home of the defendant and conducted a search. It was during the search the unlicenced firearm was discovered. The accused was then told of the offence, arrested and charged.
Gonsalves objected to bail citing the prevalence and penalty attached to the offence should the accused be convicted.
The matter was transferred to the Kwakwani Magistrate’s Court for May 15.
