Credited with guiding the sport of powerlifting to unprecedented heights, Peter Green was returned
to the helm of the Guyana Amateur Powerlifting Federation (GAPF) when that entity held its Annual General Meeting on Sunday last at the Resource Centre, Woolford Avenue. While Green was returned for another year, Dr. Osmand mack replaced Deon Dutt as Treasurer, Denroy Livan was elected Public Relations Officer / Organizing Secretary replacing Paul Adams while the new Committee Members are Karl Marks and Jagdesh Budhram who replaced Erwyn Smith and Wendell Mc Pherson.
The full executive reads: President – Peter Green, Vice President – John Edwards (returned), General Secretary – Edwin Spencer (returned), Treasurer – Osmond Mack, PRO/Organizing Secretary – Emmanuel Livan, Committee Members – Karl Marks, Jagdesh Budhram and Winston Stoby (returned).
In accepting the confidence placed in him by of his members, President Peter Green expressed gratitude to the outgoing members for their voluntary service while he shared his plans for 2015 which will lift off when the federation hosts a Referee / Coaching Clinic Sunday April 26 at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.
Persons interested in attending the Seminar can register with IPF Certified Referees, John Edwards and Gordon Spencer. National Referees and Coaches are invited to attend also.
Meanwhile, the scheduled Clash of Champions is set for Friday May 1st with registration closing this Friday, April 24.
Lifters eligible for competition are asked to register with Denroy Livan the PRO/Organizing Secretary or
Vice President John Edwards. The clash of champions will give lifters the added opportunity of making qualifying marks for the Pan American and Commonwealth championships set for September and December respectively as well as setting new National records.
Intermediate and Masters are set to follow along with Power bashes featuring events in Linden, Berbice and Demerara along with the introduction of visually impaired and Blind Competitions among eight (8) lifters who have been training under the guidance of Andrea and Erwyn Smith. With Paralympics on the radar the lifters have been responding admirably and are expected to make their mark soon.
