A 24-year-old Bare Root, East Coast Demerara, vendor is in a critical condition after he was shot in the stomach by a man with whom he had a dispute over money.
The victim, Eon Goodluck, was reportedly attacked around 19.00 hrs yesterday while standing on a road in his community. He was still undergoing surgery at press time.
The shooter, who fled on a motorcycle, is said to be an East Coast Demerara resident known as ‘Cooler.’ However, he was reportedly detained after turning up at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) to inquire about the victim.
A close associate of Goodluck’s told Kaieteur News that the suspect claimed that Goodluck owed him $50,000. The men had a confrontation several months ago over the debt and Goodluck’s girlfriend allegedly gave the man a mobile phone worth $32,000 as part payment. The friend claimed that Goodluck also paid off part of the debt.
But at around 19.00 hrs, the man known as ‘Cooler’ allegedly rode up to Goodluck and demanded the entire $50,000.
An argument ensued, during which a friend of the suspect allegedly tried to run Goodluck over with a car. Goodluck attempted to flee and the suspect shot him.
The injured man reportedly caught a vehicle which took him to the GPHC.
