A number of companies have come on board for the Anjue and Hamlet Park grand one day horserace meet set for today at the Club’s Track at Mahaicony Branch Road East Coast Demarara.
Among the companies on board are Banks DIH Limited, Shariff Business Enterprise and Racing Stable, Rohan Auto Sales and Hakeem Karim a Rice Farmer among others.
The seven race card has close to $3M in prizes money up for grabs with the feature event slated for animals classified G and lower for a first prize of $250,000 and trophy over a distance of five furlongs.
The other events on the day’s card are for horses classified I1 and lower over five furlongs.
Another for horses classified I 3 and lower over five furlongs. The horses classified K and lower will also compete over five furlongs.
There are also three races for L class horses. The horses classified L1 and lower will be going over a distance of five furlongs. The L2 and lower horses will be racing over a distance of five furlongs, while the final race is for L3 and lower horses over a distance of four furlongs.
Reports out of Mahaicony are that a lot of improvements have being done to the facilities, bringing it on par with the others in the country. The track, which is a grass track, is the only one in the country and has been upgraded recently.
Outstanding jockeys, trainers and stables will be presented with trophies compliments of Trophy Stall, Bourda market. Race time is 13:00 hrs. (Samuel Whyte)
