“PPP/C, in trying to paint a picture to the electorate that we will take Guyana back to dark days is jumbie politics” – Dr. Rupert Roopnaraine
Be it through television advertisements or on their election crusades, the People’s Progressive Party/
Civic (PPP/C) has been painting a picture to the electorate that should it vote for A Partnership for National Unity plus Alliance For Change (APNU+AFC), they would only be resurrecting an era of “dark days.”
Members of APNU+AFC told this newspaper that they have taken note of it but are not worried by the “pathetic” political ploys of the PPP/C because they have every confidence that the voting populace is no longer interested in those lies “manufactured at Freedom House.”
Specifically, AFC’s co-founder, Raphael Trotman said that he has heard such statements but based on his reception from the citizenry, they are rejecting it.
He said, “As I go around this country, people are putting up our posters everywhere and spreading our message and have been showing us tremendous support. But the PPP/C has been trying to tell the electorate another lie and that is if they vote for us, there will be dark days. But the truth is, the darkest time we have seen is during the last decade. When the late Dr. Cheddi Jagan died, we quickly saw the PPP/C going downhill.”
“We are in a coalition where we will act as a check and balance for each other so if APNU misbehaves in any way we will pull them in line and vice versa and the people, most importantly will not allow us to mess it up. We are here to serve the people. From all I have seen, David Granger is a man of integrity and is strong, disciplined and for justice, and the nation already knows that he will govern fairly unlike what they have been subjected to for the last decade with the Jagdeo/Ramotar rule.”
Trotman emphasized that the APNU+AFC is not into “revenge politics” and was formed on the principle
of moving the nation forward.
He added, “Our Prime Ministerial candidate Moses Nagamootoo is a passionate fighter for freedom and justice and we have the right blend here to ensure equality and transparency for the people. Those PPP/C lies in the advertisements are just sickening and reflective of a government in its dying days. It won’t amount to anything.”
His colleague, APNU’s Shadow Minister of Natural Resources, Dr. Rupert Roopnaraine also gave his take on the issue. He said that what PPP/C is doing with such statements, is clearly an attempt to frighten the electorate. He stressed however, that the problems plaguing the people now are due to the poor governance of the PPP/C administration throughout the society.
Dr. Roopnaraine views the “dark days- statements” as the PPP/C attempting to save face with lies.
The politician said that it is not convincing to anyone who hears it and when it is raised it will only be rejected and deemed to be a “pathetic practice of jumbie politics.”
“PPP/C in trying to paint a picture to the electorate that we will take Guyana back to dark days is jumbie politics. They aren’t fooling anyone with those kinds of lies. The electorate will make them pay for it come May 11.”
