The 19-year-old who was nabbed on Monday in New Amsterdam, Berbice with a Berretta Pistol has been charged and remanded to jail.
Trevor Sandy, 19, and unemployed, gave his address as 58 Stanleytown, New Amsterdam, Berbice. He appeared on Tuesday in the Albion Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Rabindranauth Singh and pleaded not guilty to charges of possession of ammunition without being the holder of a firearm licence and being in possession of a firearm without being the holder of a licence.
According to Prosecutor Sergeant Altia Solomon, the accused on April 13, last, at Main and Chapel Streets, had in his possession one Beretta Pistol and two rounds of matching ammunition.
He was remanded to jail until Friday April 17, when he will next appear in court in the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s court.
According to information on the day in question at around 01:30 hrs on Monday morning, the police acting on information went to the area of Main and Chapel Streets, New Amsterdam, in the vicinity of Lim Kang Restaurant.
Upon arriving at the scene the cops observed a man throwing something under a bus. The ranks quickly retrieved the object from under the bus. It was a gun.
