An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances that led to the death of convicted prisoner Navar Edwards called Ramesh, who was found hanging in his cell at the Mazaruni Prison.
Edwards, 31, of Number Naught Village, Corentyne, Berbice, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Bartica Hospital, hours after he was discovered hanging from a sheet that was tied to the door of his cell around 15:00 hours yesterday.
Navar Edwards was serving a five-year sentence for a sexual offence and had been admitted to the Mazaruni Prison last Thursday April 09, 2015.
His death comes three days after Ephraim Bovell was found hanging in his cell at the Lethem police station lock-ups.
