A forum arranged to facilitate public interaction between President Donald Ramotar, his Prime Ministerial
running mate Elisabeth Harper, and members of the public was yesterday postponed for reasons that are yet to be confirmed.
The forum, which was organised by Guyana Women Roundtable (GWR) and Guyana National Youth Council (GNYC), was arranged so that parties contesting the upcoming General and Regional Elections could address public issues related to women’s rights and youth development.
APNU+AFC Presidential Candidate David Granger (ret’d), and the party’s Executive member Catherine Hughes, participated in the activity which was held at the Theatre Guild Playhouse, Parade Street, Kingston on Monday last. President Ramotar and PPP Prime Ministerial hopeful Elisabeth Harper, were to make their appearance at the same venue yesterday.
In a press release GNYC explained that yesterday’s event had been postponed until further notice. When this newspaper contacted Chairperson, Tiffany Daniels, she explained that the last unofficial communication she received was to the effect that PPP/C requested the meeting be postponed, because of issues with space and the air conditioning at the Parade Street, Kingston location.
Daniels said, “I have not spoken to the PPP/C as yet, so I am not sure why the activity was postponed… but my last communication was that they had a problem with space and the air conditioning… because of complaints from people who were there.”
When Kaieteur News contacted GWR Founder, Dr. Dawn Stewart, she explained that the PPP/C did
not give a reason as to why the meeting has been postponed, and are yet to get back to the organisers to set a new date.
However, both Stewart and Daniels expressed optimism that the meeting will take place in the near future.
