Berbican Chaitram Nagessar of Tej Mahal Gym was crowned the new Novice bodybuilding of Guyana when the Fitness Express sponsored Guyana Amateur Body Building & Fitness Federation (GABBFF) Novices championship was held on Saturday evening at the Theatre Guild Playhouse, Kingston, Georgetown.
Competing in the Flyweight Under-132lbs category which he won earlier in the night from two other contestants, Nagessar returned for the Overall pose down featuring the other four category winners to outmuscle them on his way to the coveted title and bragging rights for the next year as the best in the land.
Sporting a chiseled and balanced structure, the Berbician was able to gain the nod of the five judges. Second overall was Jamaul Tinnie of Fitness Paradise Gym in the City. Tinnie earned his spot in the final showdown of the night having copped the top spot in the Lightweight 144-154lbs class which also featured three athletes.
The night got off to an exciting start with the Junior Category Under-21 years contest which featured seven contestants. Rashleigh Bentick of Fitness Paradise Gym emerged as the best of the lot after the judges requested further comparisons between the winner, second placed Mahadeo Lakeram (House of Pain Gym), third placed Christopher Phagoo (House of Pain Gym) and fourth placed Tinnie.
Bentick returned again in the Bantamweight Under-143lbs category to win the five-way contest to enjoy a rewarding night.
The Welterweight 155-165lbs division saw a two-way battle between winner, Kris Williams of Buddy’s Gym and gym mate John Bhagwandin. In the clash of the big guys, Julio Sinclair of GMR&SC Gym overpowered his opponents to win easily.
For the first time on stage a GABBFF competition was the Men’s Physique competition which attracted eight competitors. Claiming the number one spot and a place in the history books was Emmerson Campbell of Bodymax Gym.
The lone female competing on the night, Ms. Junica Pluck of Buddy’s Gym won both the Miss Body Fitness and Ms. Bikini competitions. The respective category winners and overall champion were all presented with hampers (various supplements) compliments of Fitness Express.
The other championship sponsors were Cyrex Fitness Gym, Subs and Salads and Al Haaq. Guest posers on the night were 2014 Novice King Sylvester Andrews and winner of Mr. Flex Night 2014, Godfrey Stoby.
