Dear Editor,
It is now necessary that you reprimand Freddie Kissoon. Your long-standing columnist has steadfastly devalued the political discourse in Guyana to the proverbial pit. His ad hominem attack on prime ministerial candidate Elizabeth Harper is unbecoming of newspaper columnist and academic. This surely must have caught your attention as editor of the Kaieteur News.
If Elizabeth Harper is the stupidest person in the world, then so am I, and Freddie Kissoon as well. I lay no claim to any distinction as an intellectual. I attended the University of Guyana about the same time when Freddie Kissoon was there as a student. I subsequently attended UWI, where I taught for a while. I have had my fill of so-called bright boys who see no stupidities in themselves.
It would have been so uplifting to read Kissoon’s articles if they were born out of deep analysis and critical examination of political and social issues in Guyana. His daily anti-PPP rant marks his identity more as an ideologue than bona fide academic. A true academic is not so reckless in the delivery of opinions and criticisms. He or She would be cautious, objective and highly respectful of the facts. Kissoon is none of these things. You should speak to him.
