Apr 11, 2015 Letters
DEAR EDITOR,
I see Peter Persaud has arisen from his unpaid slumber to pen a letter in the Guyana Times of April 1, 2015 about the attendance at APNU meetings in Moruca. Peter has now assumed the role of census taker at APNU-AFC campaign meetings. I would wish Mr. Persaud better counting ability.
People in Moruca were paying keen attention to the speakers and what Peter does not know is that the Social Media especially the page – Amerindian, is buzzing with comments against the ruling Party and salutations for the Coalition.
The eyes of the Amerindians are opening. They are not anymore satisfied with the hand outs; they want to be independent. They do not want people to make decisions for them and to keep them in mental slavery.
The Amerindians see freedom at last – no slaps if they use their democratic rights to speak out. No trumped up charges.
Peter Persaud’s party would want the Indigenous people to continue to shake their heads in upward-downward motion always and stretch their hands to receive the paltry offerings every five years.
The Amerindians now fully understand that it was the PPP that was stagnating their progress. Money that should be spent on Amerindian Development projects is now being used to pay Community Service Officers (CSOs) who are in essence working for the PPP.
As recent as March 31, CSOs were paid ninety thousand dollars each. Then, since there are no free dinners with the PPP, they were all made to march from Mabaruma Township to a PYO Rally at the Broomes Playfield.
Worse, it is alleged that, to make up numbers, some students from the Secondary School dorms were taken to the rally in full PPP gear. It is further alleged that these children could not be accounted for until the wee hours of the next morning. Is this how the PPP plans to govern this country for another five years?
School children in Mabaruma have to pay to get their exam papers photo copied at the Education Department while the PYO photocopies its political literature for free. This means that our children will be left behind.
A young lady who lives in Georgetown and who accompanies a senior Government official on trips to the North West is paid by the Department of Education in Mabaruma. Utter lawlessness
The PPP is using scare tactics on its campaign trail. Is this all it has to offer? The PYO group is telling the Amerindians that if they vote for the Coalition ‘dem black man will ………..’ We are in a sad state if that is all we hear coming from them. They are putting us up to hate our brothers. We are intelligent people and we want to progress as Guyanese. Stop pitting us against each other.
The issue with some of the communities refusing campaigners entry is because they were instructed by senior PPP officials to not allow APNU-AFC to visit and campaign. So much for freedom of association! How much longer can the PPP hold our people in bondage?
Also, could Peter Persaud explain to the diehard supporters of The United Force what he is doing championing the cause of the PPP/C when he was the last known LEADER of their party? A toothless poodle.
