Another charge read that also at Glasgow Housing Scheme, Bhagwandin and his cohorts robbed Stanley McKenzie of one motor car, a cellular phone and $1,500 in cash.
On the same day he and his cohorts are accused of venturing to No. 2 Village, East Canje Berbice and robbing Devindra Samaroo of one gold ring and one Blackberry cellular phone, a total value of $85,000. Attorney-at-Law Charrandass Persaud, who is representing Bhagwandin, asked for bail for his client. He told the court that he (Bhagwandin) is the father of five. He also told the court that the defendant should not be remanded to the New Amsterdam Prison since he was brutalized by inmates whilst being incarcerated there recently.
Attorney Persaud told the court that his client is virtually a cripple and at the moment is unable to grip or hold anything solid, much less a gun or cutlass.
Police Prosecutor Sergeant Phillip Sheriff objected to bail on the grounds of the nature, gravity and prevalence of the offences. He also stated that a firearm was used in the robbery while, the victim of the attempted murder remains hospitalized.
The robbery was caught on CCTV camera mounted on one of the premises that was robbed and Bhagwandin was positively identified by some of the victims of the robberies.
Four of the cases were transferred to the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s court for continuation on April 24. While the other seven cases were fixed for May 6, at the Reliance Magistrate’s court.
