The brother of executed vendor Quincy Bowman remained in custody yesterday, as police sources
confirmed that he is being questioned about last February’s killing of Guyana Geology and Mines (GGMC) engineer Trevor Abrams.
It is unclear why police believe that the brother, who is a miner, and has reportedly been in custody since Wednesday, may have information about Abrams’ murder.
Abrams was riddled with bullets on February 26 by the occupants of a car while driving near Little Diamond, on the East Bank Demerara Public Road. Police subsequently arrested two men with a .32 pistol, which ballistics tests showed was used to kill Abrams and security guard, Wilfred Stewart, who was shot dead on December 8, 2014, at the Sterling Products Limited, Providence, East Bank Demerara.
Kaieteur News understands that three suspects are due to appear in court shortly on charges related to the two killings. Police recently refuted a Kaieteur News report which stated that one of the suspects said that an individual in the mining industry hired persons to kill Abrams.
Quincy Bowman, the brother of the man now being questioned, was shot in the back of the head at around 04.00 hrs on Easter Monday on a bridge in Nutmeg Street, Festival City.
Speculation is that the clothing and cosmetics vendor, who only returned from French Guiana last December, was lured or forcibly taken to the spot.
Residents told Kaieteur News that they heard two gunshots at around 04.00 hrs and then heard the sound
of a motorcycle leaving the area.
They ventured outside and saw the then unidentified victim, who was dressed in a red long-sleeved, hooded jersey and white three-quarter pants, lying motionless on the bridge.
Police reportedly managed to identify the slain man after using a cell phone they found in his pockets to contact his acquaintances. Relatives subsequently identified the body at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.
Bowman had lived with his now detained brother at Cummings Lodge. The sibling has stated that he went out around 21.00 hrs on Sunday, leaving Bowman at home. However, when he returned at around 01.00 hrs on Monday, there was no sign of his brother.
Bowman’s sister said he had no enemies that they knew of. She said that he rarely went out, did not seem to have many friends, and only recently began vending in Georgetown.
