The families of four-year-old Jayden Mars, who died last December, three-year- old Akeela Benson, and five-month-old Kevon Critchlow, who both died last month, will be collaborating in a protest set for Monday outside the Ministry of Health, Brickdam.
The families are contending that the children died due to the negligence of the health facilities.
Mars’ case was however a bit different from the other two. A senior official of the health sector confirmed that he was a victim of negligence and malpractice by the medical practitioners who administered an overdose of anesthetic.
However, a defence was later proffered.
The collaboration was long anticipated as the families shared the same sentiments and wished the same results; justice for their babies.
However the flame was sparked up yesterday, following the laying of charges against Kevin Critchlow, father of five-month-old Kevon Critchlow, on Thursday.
Kevin Critchlow was charged for threatening nurses at the Plaisance Health Centre. They claim that he was armed with a cutlass and bearing his son’s coffin in the other hand.
Yesterday when the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Shamdeo Persaud, was contacted for a status update on the investigations into the death of Critchlow, he said that investigations are still ongoing.
