Murder accused: Ryan Bobb Semple at court yesterday
year-old Shaquan Gittens of South Ruimveldt, Georgetown, Ryan Bobb Semple, 22 was brought before the court yesterday for the capital offence of murder.
Magistrate Judy Latchman read the charge to the accused at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Particulars of the charge stated that between April 1 and April 4, at Houston Backland, he murdered Gittens.
Curious onlookers flocked the courtroom to get a glimpse of the alleged murderer.
Semple appeared in court bare feet and stood quietly in the prisoner’s dock as the charge was being read to him.
When asked by the Magistrate if he had anything to say, the defendant replied “no”.
The Prosecution did not provide the court with any facts about what transpired on the days in question.
The court hearing was a brief one and Semple was remanded to prison.
He will appear before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, on April 17.
While the accused was being transported to the prisoner’s van to return to the Camp Street lockups, his fellow inmates could be heard threatening him. Some indicated that they will sodomize and kill him in prison in revenge for his gruesome crime.
As the threats were being hurled the accused remained calm.
The partially decomposed, bloated body of Gittens, who went missing on April 1 was found in a trench around 15:35 hrs last Saturday.

two Wednesdays ago. He admitted to police that he ‘tripped’ the boy, causing him to fall to the ground.
After Gittens fell, the accused said that he dragged him to an area which is approximately half a mile from the nearest house in South Ruimveldt. He allegedly tied the victim’s hands and sodomized him.
He reportedly choked the lad repeatedly until he passed out. The accused then slept with Gittens under a tree. After realizing that the child was motionless the following morning, Semple severed the child’s private parts and had sex with him again.
He then took Gittens to a trench, where he dumped his body.
A postmortem revealed that Gittens died of manual strangulation and drowning. There were also signs of sexual assault and the postmortem also confirmed that the child’s privates were missing.
