The management of the privately-owned Caricom Rice Mills Ltd, located, at Anna Regina is continuing to
evade the media. However, Pamela Gittens, the mother of the teenager who lost his life two months ago while working at the rice mill, has said that she would receive a substantial monetary compensation from the company very soon.
Gittens did not reveal the amount she would be receiving fearing that she may be the target of thieves.
Gittens lost her third child, Threeion Gittens, hours after he had reported for work, at CRML, on February 5, last. The 17-year-old and three other employees were cleaning a storage tank when the tank which usually stores tons of paddy dislocated and fell, pinning Gittens.
Immediately after the accident, efforts were made by management of Caricom Rice Mills Ltd., to remove his body from beneath the tons of paddy.
The firm paid for Threeion Gittens’s funeral.
Gittens worked for at least one year with Caricom Rice Mills.
