Magistrate Judy Latchman imposed a fine of $10,000 on a scrap iron seeker after he pleaded guilty to stealing a trolley from Bakewell. Failure to pay the fine will result in the man being imprisoned for two weeks.
Christopher Singh, 32, admitted that on April 8, at North Road Bourda, he stole one trolley valued $9,500, property of Bakewell.
Singh, who was unrepresented by an Attorney, explained to the court that he saw the trolley outside of the business premises. He said that he picked it up because he thought it was scrap iron.
Further, the defendant recalled that as he was going down the road with the item in his hands, the company’s security guard apprehended him and took him to the station.
The court was told that on the day in question, the accused went to the aforementioned business premises and stole the item mentioned in the charge. He was later caught by a security guard attached to the company and taken to the station, where he was arrested and charged.
