Passengers escape with minor injuries after bus overturns

Passengers in a route 40 minibus were fortunate to escape with minor injuries last evening after the vehicle overturned on Vlissengen Road after hitting a car that was travelling in the same direction.

“I am really thankful to be alive,” were the words of the car’s occupant, Editor-in-Chief of the Guyana Chronicle Newspaper, Mark Ramotar, a few minutes after the accident.
Ramotar was driving south along the thoroughfare when his Toyota Verossa was struck by the bus. According to Ramotar, he was just about to turn west into Lama Ave, Bel Air Park, when the other driver undertook him and the bus hit the front left wheel of his car and toppled.
Fortunately all the passengers escaped unhurt. Neither Ramotar nor the bus driver sustained any injuries.
However, even though from all indications the bus driver was at fault, he apparently failed to acknowledge his errant ways as he behaved in a less than civil manner.
Scores converged at the scene. Amongst those gathered there were expressions that the bus driver is a known “wild oats.” Persons from the area would have been familiar with the bus as it works that route. “Duh is not de bus that recently spray over?” “Is nah duh bus de hit Trevor?” “Oh gosh this man again? He got to know nuff people in big places!” were some of the remarks heard at the scene.
Indeed, the driver seemed like a “regular” as he handled the entire situation quite calmly. He appeared to have been quite au fait with certain procedures…”come we got to turn it over (the bus) before the tow truck come, y’all mek sure you secure the computer box.”
The driver remained unidentified as he refused to speak to the media. He also removed the number plates from his bus.
