On Wednesday, a 35-year-old man was refused bail and remanded to prison after it was alleged he had a gun along with ammunition in his possession, without being the holder of a firearm licence.
Magistrate Fabayo Azore, read the charges to Adrian Adonis, 35, of Grove Housing Scheme. Particulars of the first charge stated that on April 6, at Campbellville, he had a 9mm pistol.
It was further alleged that he also had five live rounds of ammunition in his possession.
Adonis, who was unrepresented by an Attorney, pleaded not guilty to the charges after they were read to him at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
The facts of the matter were read to the court by Police Prosecutor Simone Payne. The facts stated that on the day in question the police were on patrol in the area when they received certain information. As a result, they proceeded to a yard to carry out investigations.
Upon seeing the police, the defendant allegedly ran away with the firearm in his hand. He was eventually caught by the police and taken to the Prashad Nagar police outpost, where he was arrested and charged.
The matter was adjourned to April 13.
