Dear Editor,
This letter is intended to bring to your attention that the News Article which is the subject at reference above is considered and understood by the Management of the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC) to be a “draft” document which is to receive the benefit of inputs from selected stakeholders before finalization. At no time was it understood by Management, GGMC that the said “draft” document would be
made public. Furthermore, the Management, GGMC has not communicated this “draft” report to any party for public display.
The Management GGMC finds it quite upsetting that sections of the said “draft” report have been published in Kaieteur News without the benefit of proper response by Management. Indeed, GGMC Management finds quite upsetting also, that Kaieteur News has placed in the public domain references from the “draft” that are personal and insensitive.
Nothing, herein, is a signal to Kaieteur News that Management GGMC objects to a review of Management systems. Such reviews are welcome when their objectives are to strengthen deficiencies. The “draft” cannot be embraced as having achieved that since many corrections have to be considered in an editing exercise by the authors.
The Management GGMC, as a consequence of the foregoing, would expect Kaieteur News to avoid
..
referencing the issues in the “draft”; to respect the intention that the “draft” document is not paraded in
public; and that speculations which have their roots in the “draft document be avoided.
The discretion by Kaieteur News in that regard, would be welcome.
Rickford Vieira
Commissioner
