– three matches to be contested
Youth football which is the focus of the East Bank Football Association (EBFA) is set to continue at the Grove Playfield today when the association in conjunction with Lens Craft Optical kicks off an Under-13 League.
This competition follows closely on the heels of the MCYS sponsored Under-11 Pee Wee league which concluded last month and was won by Herstelling Raiders.
Managing Director of Lens Craft Optical, located on Croal Street in the City, Mr. Allister Parris in brief comments on his entity’s association with the EBFA said that they have been following the progress of youth football in the association over the past two years and are pleased to get on board since the future of the sport rests with the youths.
“When the EBFA Secretary Mr. Franklin Wilson approached me to get involved I had no hesitation since we are well aware of what the association has been doing in trying to promote youth football. We wish all the teams every success and know that this level of investment will do Guyana well in the future.”
Wilson, on behalf of the EBFA extended gratitude to Mr. Parris and Len’s Craft Optical for partnering with the association to bring off this tournament which will see seven (7) clubs competing.
Defending Under-13 champions Grove Hi Tech, will play the feature game today against old rivals Herstelling Raiders at 12:00hrs. Opening the action at 10:00hrs will be Mocha Champs and Craig Primary with the main supporting contest between Agricola Red Triangle and Diamond United. The other club competing will be Kuru Kururu Warriors.
While Grove dominated at every level last year (U13, 15, 17, senior), Herstelling Raiders, the newest club on the block already has one in the bag having won the U-11 Pee Wee league.
All the clubs have been improving with every game which no doubt will translate into some exciting matches in the games that will be for one hour with two equal periods of 30 minutes and a 10 minute rest period.
Only players born on or after January 1st, 2003 are eligible to play. Clubs are reminded that copies of player’s birth certificates must be submitted in order for players to be allowed to play.
