The Guyana Dominoes Association (GDA) International Tournament is set to start tonight with the staging of the Pullorama at the residence of President of the entity Faye Joseph’s Gaulding Place location, South Ruimveldt.
The tournament which involves teams from several countries will start properly tomorrow and run until April 6, at the National Gymnasium. According to word from the GDA, the countries invited are Barbados, USA, Canada, Antigua & Barbuda and St. Lucia, Grenada, Montserrat, St. Eustatius, Dominica, St. Kitts & Nevis, Anguilla and Puerto Rico.
The tournament will be divided into three zones and the entrance fee per team is $US220 or $44,000. The winning team is set to receive US$5000, runner-up US$2500, 3rd place US$1500 and 4th place US$1000 along with trophies. There will also be a trophy for the Most Valuable Player.
Secretary of the GDA Barbara Marshall in an earlier pronouncement about the rules that will govern the competition had stated that points and not the accumulation of games will determined which teams go forward to the semi-finals. Three points will be awarded for a win, while two for second and one for third.
Up to press time yesterday, most of the invited teams have confirmed their attendance and the event is expected to be one of the largest to be held in this country.
