Well known character Clarence Williams called “Wild Hog”, 41, of Angoy’s Avenue could not outrun two young and energetic police officers although he chose to dart through an alleyway and jump into a gutter in his escape bid.
All over he went the young constables were after him until he was apprehended. Even with his battle with them in the mud he came out second best as he was apprehended and taken into custody. The ganja he was carrying and trying to conceal was dug up from in the trench and taken away.
According to reports, around 12:05 hrs on Monday, police were on mobile patrol in the Vryman’s Erven/Angoy’s Avenue area when they noticed two men coming out of an alleyway on a Blue Jailing motor cycle. Upon seeing the lawmen the bike stopped and Williams who was the pillion rider and was carrying a bag dismounted and started to run.
Two young constables disembarked the vehicle and gave chase.
‘Wild Hog’ who recently came out of jail darted through an alley hotly pursued by the constables. He continued his escape bid by jumping into a drain through an alley and into a gutter still pursued by the cops in their full uniform.
The cops, by now muddy, were able to catch up with Williams in a gutter burying a haversack in the drain. Another tussle ensued and continued until the lawmen were able to overpower the culprit.
The haversack was dug up and was found to contain a white plastic bag which held a number smaller ziplock bags containing what was suspected to be seeds, leaves and stems of the marijuana plant. The substance was subsequently tested and found to be 121 grams of marijuana.
Williams was charged with being in possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
He appeared in the Reliance Magistrate’s court on Wednesday before Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs- Marcus and was remanded to jail. His next court appearance will be in the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court.
Williams has been in an out of jail on a number of matters including sacrilege, robbery, possession of house breaking implements and break and enter and larceny and escaping from lawful custody. He had dug himself out of his cell and scaled the fence before making good his escape. He had fled to neighbouring Suriname where he was recaptured and brought back to Guyana. While on remand Williams had also assaulted a police officer.
He had also written to the Chancellor of the Judiciary citing victimization and undue delay and a number of other issues.
Williams was one of the men who were brutally chopped and burnt on Tuesday May 23, last year by a rival gang in the New Amsterdam Prison.
