Dear Editor,
With few exceptions, nonimmigrant visa applications are evaluated under Section 214(b) of the United States Immigration and Nationality Act, which states, in part, that every applicant for a nonimmigrant visa “. . .shall be presumed to be an immigrant until (s)he establishes to the satisfaction of the consular officer, at the time of application for a visa, . . .that (s)he is entitled to nonimmigrant status. . . .”
This statutory presumption of immigration may be overcome by demonstrating sufficiently strong familial, social, professional and economic ties to a country outside the United States that would compel return after a temporary stay in the United States.
So what really is Jagdeo saying when he warned that US visas will be hard to get if the APNU+AFC is elected to office?
Yes, visas may be harder for the PPP crooks to get, but until and unless the criteria changes, what stands today as US policy will stand tomorrow. It matters not who is in power. Those who are granted visas today will continue to be granted visas tomorrow because of their strong family, social, professional and economic ties to Guyana? There is no common sense in following the absurdity of this Jagdeo message.
The more this person opens his mouth, the more it reveals an agenda to drive racial fear into the minds of the East Indians of Guyana using cheap political sound bytes. Any rational thinker will know that what was said at the PPP Kitty rally is nothing but a blatant untruth. Jagdeo clearly does not know what he is talking about or he is just being politically mischievous to the detriment of Guyana.
Is Jagdeo Guyana’s Slobodan Milosevic? Because that is what Milosevic did in Serbia – recklessly stirred up ethnic fears to create the conditions for racial genocide in the former Yugoslavia.
Is this what they want so that they can preserve the mansion and the pension? If Guyana is ever to erupt, it is those who have mansions that will pay the heaviest price. So beware of these wild and reckless talk from the Jagdeos of Guyana, it will only lead to greater pain for all of Guyana.
