“Our father died and leave us when we were little and now he died and leave his three small children”- sister
Police are on the hunt for a driver, who abandoned his vehicle, PMM 6011, on Sunday night after killing a
father of three on the Zeeburg, West Coast Demerara (WCD) Public Road.
Information revealed that the runaway driver was being chased by police ranks after he failed to stop at a roadblock at Uitvlugt, a half mile before the accident took place.
The dead man has been identified as 37-year-old Odit Narine Singh, a taxi driver of Lot 716 Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo (EBE).
Singh was struck down around 23:00 hrs on Sunday while waiting to cross the public road to get back to his taxi base. He was pronounced dead at 01:15 hrs at the Leonora Cottage Hospital.
According to information received, the father of three was standing opposite his taxi base, when the speeding vehicle, which was heading west on the WCD Public Road, struck him.
Kaieteur News was told that Singh’s body ended up under a parked truck.
No one saw when the driver sneaked away from the scene. Not even the police who were said to be chasing after him.
Yesterday, the dead man’s sister, Indira Singh, said that she was at home sleeping when a driver, who works at the same taxi service with her sibling, visited her home and informed her that the father of three was involved in an accident.
“The taxi driver took us to the hospital where the doctors were tending to him. He was in a bad state. He was unconscious and bleeding all over,” Singh related.
She explained that the doctors said that the 37-year-old man died from a punctured heart and bleeding in the brain.
“They said that a PM (Post Mortem) will show the extent of his injuries. Both his hands broke and at the top of his eye burst,” the grieving sister revealed.
She said that her sibling had been operating as a taxi driver for more than 10 years but they never expected he would have been killed in such a manner.
“Our father died and leave us when we were little and now he died and leave his three small children,” the devastated woman related.
The woman is calling on the police to do a thorough investigation so that Singh’s relatives get justice for his untimely demise.
Up to press time, the killer driver remains unknown while his car which is believed to be a rented vehicle was lodged at the Leonora Police Station.
