Introduced as the Champion of the earth, former President Bharrat Jagdeo got a resounding welcome to the podium from those who gathered yesterday at the People’s Progressive Party’s (PPP) first political rally for the upcoming May, 11 General and Regional Elections.
As he addressed the crowd, Jagdeo first made good on his promise to “deal with” A Partnership for National Unity and Alliance For Change (APNU+AFC) Prime Ministerial candidate, Moses Nagamootoo.
Jagdeo did not speak on any policy of the PPP government. In fact, he told the crowd he could, “but a rally is not the place to do so.”
He instead attacked character of political figures in the Opposition.
APNU+AFC Presidential candidate David Granger and Nagamootoo had the brunt of it.
Jagdeo told PPP supporters that Granger placed a Prime Ministerial comforter in the mouth of Nagamootoo and as Nagamootoo sucked this comforter, he lost track of principles and forgot the era of rigged elections in Guyana.
Jagdeo urged supporters to vote for the PPP to ensure that Nagamootoo does not get away “with his rhetoric”.
Turning his attention to Granger, Jagdeo said that the presidential hopeful is either delusional, unrepentant or just a plain liar.
Jagdeo also said that Granger seems complacent as he waited until now to point out that the Guyana Elections Commission produced a “flawed’ list.
Jagdeo, who stayed out of the political limelight since Donald Ramotar became President in 2011, said that the PPP has been quiet for the past three years on all the wrong that the Opposition did, “but no longer will we remain silent.”
He said that the nature of the People’s National Congress, which forms part of APNU, remains the same. “The nature of the animal has not changed.” Jagdeo listed materialistic and criminal as two of the “animal’s” characteristics.
Jagdeo said that the PPP does not look at race or religion as it is a party of unity.
Jagdeo also said that APNU+AFC cannot deliver on their promise of National Unity “by simply taking two rejects from PPP.”
Jagdeo urged that Guyanese vote to ensure that they don’t get “white mouth” again and that “tainted characters” are not put to govern.
He said that he will use “every strength” in his body to ensure Ramotar remains President.
