A 20-year-old mother of one is currently missing, after allegedly being beaten and tossed from her Fisher
Dam, Zeelugt home last Monday. The missing woman, Samantha Alli, known as Devika, is said to have been in an abusive relationship with her husband for the past four years.
The missing woman’s mother, Kumarie “Sunita” Mhaaramie told this newspaper that the man, who is a few years older than her daughter, is said to be a conductor of a route 32 minibus, and has constantly been beating Samantha, from the time she got involved with him at the age of 16.
“Is steady he does beat she, kick she up and all kinda things. Everybody from around the area know this… she never try to leave him because she watching that they got a child, so she nah lef he, because they got a child…” the mother explained.
In an interview with Kaieteur News yesterday, Mhaaramie, accompanied by a relative, explained that Samantha’s neighbours on Friday, informed them that “Leon” had beaten her up, tossed her from their home, and threw her clothes behind her.
“We get to understand that yesterday (Friday) afternoon when somebody call she (Mhaaramie), and tell she that how, since Monday the girl missing. Dem said her husband beat she up and throw she clothes on the road. So we nah know wha transpired there, or where the girl deh,” the relative related.
The relative went on to say that they made contact with other neighbours and carried out a search of the area, but came up with nothing.
“We try to find out from neighbours, find out from people where this girl could be. We went to his (husband’s) family and they giving we one seta cook-up story…”
The woman’s mother told this newspaper that she then went to the Leonora Police Station to report the matter. She said that the husband was arrested, but was subsequently released.
The relatives claim that shortly before the incident on Monday last, the man took the couple’s three-year-old son away, so that he could abuse his wife, and put her out. He reportedly later moved the child into his mother’s house, while he moved another woman into his marital home.
Police have since begun an investigation into the disappearance of Samantha Alli. Anyone knowing of her whereabouts is asked to contact the nearest police station, or relatives on 604 -2138, 689-8225 or 682-8347.
