Over horses 70 entered
As race day draws nearer the atmosphere is heating up and preparations getting
to fever pitch for the Annual Jumbo Jet Guyana Cup Fever One day Horserace meet set for Easter Sunday, 5th April at the Port Mourant (Big Yard) Turf Club, Corentyne, Berbice.
Seven races are listed for the day and already over 70 horses have entered for the $10M horserace meet.
Also a number of major sponsors are getting on board for the big day with the latest being Banks DIH Limited. On Friday Banks DIH Branch Controller and event Manager Mr. Gavin Jodhan presented a cheque for a hefty sum to coordinator of the event Nazrudeen ‘Jumbo Jet’ Mohammed Jr at the Company’s head office, Thirst Park Georgetown.
Jodhan stated that Banks DIH is one of the leading cooperate bodies in Guyana and is always willing to give back to society in various forms. He said that the company is the biggest supporter of horseracing in Guyana and is more than willing to be a part of a prestigious and recognized event such as the ‘Guyana Cup Fever’.
Mohammed expressed thanks to Jodhan and the Banks family for their support. He stated that it a pleasure to have a company such as Banks DIH on board and wished the company continued success in the future. Other major sponsor on board so far are Bacchus racing stable, Chris Jagdeo and Sons Construction and racing Stable, Fazal Hibibulla, Dennis DeRoop Simple Royal racing Stable, Colin Elcock Delmur Racing Stable, Shariff Business Enterprise and racing Stable and Romell Jagroop Construction and Racing Stable.
Most of the big stables are on board with The Jumbo Jet stable set to field over 15 horses, other big stables such as the Sheriff, Elcock/ Poonai, Jagdeo, Bacchus , Simple Royal, Sooklall, Singh, Crawford, Habibulla among others are expected to enter five or more horses.
The track is in excellent condition and another hot day of racing in anticipated. Turfites are expected to pour out in their numbers to witness the action.
The feature A1and event is turning out to be a mouth water affair. The distance is 1800M and the key battle is set to be among Score’s Even, C.P Got Even and the newly arrived Diplomatic Cat. Add the speedy Curfew Tower and the threatening Jack In My Style and Run Nana Run, Lady Budapest among others then a ding dong tussle is on for the $1.2M and trophy available.
The likes of Tiz a Holiday, Just Call Me Boss, Unsettled, Swing Easy and Big Man Boss and Spit Fire will be looking to burn up the track in the co-feature D3 and lower 1600M event for a wining take of $800,000 and trophy. That event is also expected to be scorcher.
The other events on the day’s programme are the F1 and lower 1200M event featuring racehorses classified three year old West Indies and Guyana bred animals for a total prize of $940,000 and trophy.
The G3 ad lower event will also feature West Indies and Guyana bred and 3yrs old animals and over 1200M for a combine purse of $750,000 and trophy. There is an event for West Indies and Guyana bred three year old animals including colts and fillies also for a total prize of $940,000 and trophy over 1500M.
The event for Guyana Bred three year old animals, also for ‘I’ class and lower horses for a total prize package of $560,000 and trophy is over 1200M.
The event for animals classified J2 and lower animals over 1200M has combined purse of $375,000 and trophy.
A number of added attractions and giveaways and incentives including free kites will be given away on race day.
The events will be held under the rules of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority.
