USA team face Guy U-17s at Everest
By Sean Devers
As part of its cricket development initiative, the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) has collaborated with the
USA Global Cricket Academy (USAGCA) for a youth tour from tomorrow when the North Americans face the National U-17 team at Everest.
The Guyana U-15 team will play the visitors’ U-15 side on April 4 at the world famous Bourda before the one-week tour concludes on April 5 with the last round of matches.
Each day will see three matches being played but the only game to be played outside of Demerara is fixed for March 30 when the Berbice U-18 clash with Academy’s U-18 side at Port Mourant.
The USAGCA was the winner of the 2003 ICC Global Award for Best Junior Development Initiative. The Organization is resuming its international youth cricket tour programme following its successful Under-17 and Under-19 Tour of India in 2014-15.
USAGCA Under-18, Under-15 and Under-13 teams will be engaging youth teams from various clubs, counties and area teams of the same age group.
At the club level USAGCA will oppose DCC, Everest, GCC and GYO, while visitors Berbice and Demerara along with the Area Associations in Demerara (West Demerara, Georgetown, East Coast and East Bank) will provide teams for the Under-15 and Under-18 age category. Guyana Under-15 and Under-17 will compete as well. Rubix Gas Station in Bel Air will also provide an Under-13 team.
The USAGCA team, headed by Head Coach former Guyana First-Class pacer Linden Fraser, feels the tour
will help their elite players to gain more confidence with vital experience.
The GCB said it is always open to ventures that will expose our players to new skills and opportunities that will aid in their long term growth. We are pleased to have the USA youths touring Guyana and we hope they have fun and learn something new that will be beneficial to their cricket.
