Youths within Georgetown and its outskirts will get a chance to showcase their talent in art and craft tomorrow, when the Guyana Police Force (GPF)’s “A” Division management launches its first youth exposition.
The exposition will be hosted at the Thirst Park Ground between 11:00 to 17:00 hrs, and will be opened by Commander of “A” Division, Clifton Hicken.
The main aim of the exhibition, according to the Divisional Commander, will be to showcase the talent of the young people the police have been working with over the years.
The items made by the teenagers will be on sale. Money gained from the event will go back to sustain the groups, as the police will be looking to commission new groups in other areas.
Eleven youth groups from as many communities are expected to participate in the exposition and showcase different aspects of what they have been learning since they started working with the police.
Some of these communities include Grove, Agricola, and Mocha, all on the East Bank of Demerara as well as Albouystown in the city.
Hicken said that his team has enjoyed working with the communities through the formation of the youth groups.
He noted too, that the police did not impose itself on the communities but rather, adopted a collaborated approach where all programmes and initiatives implemented were those which the communities desired.
The Commander added that one of the main aims behind the youth expo, is to have the children who are from various backgrounds communicate and interact with each other in an effort to learn each other’s culture.
He said that while the Guyana Police Force is reforming itself, it is also working to ensure that it reform the youths since they are the future.
Hicken called on members of the public to support the exposition on Sunday and show their support for the work the police has been doing in playing the second guardians of children, complementing the work of many parents especially those who have been manning single parent homes.
Among the displays which persons can view and purchase are craft, floral arrangements, tie-dyed items and photo frames.
There will also be a cultural show.
