Former champion Anand Ramchand speaking with Kaieteur Sport yesterday issued a warning to all competitors set to appear at tomorrow’s Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club (GMR&SC) International Drag Meet that he
is determined to regain his crown as the top dragster in the land.
Ramchand made the bold prediction in the presence of old rivals the Daby brothers Rondell and Peter, Rajesh Panday, Budhram Heeralall and Pierre Singh.
The former champ disclosed that he will be piloting four cars including a Toyota Verossa, Mitsubishi Evolution, Toyota Vitz and a Toyota Starlet.
He said that while he expects the opposition to be well prepared, he too has done quite a lot of work on his machines to ensure that they perform to the maximum that will enhance his chances of upstaging his rivals.
Meanwhile, a source close to the Club confirmed that the event will have in attendance dragsters from Suriname and fans could expect exhilarating action throughout the day as the locals attempt to represent home turf against the strong foreign invasion.
Ramchand promised the fans a day when existing records could be challenged and possibly bettered.
The Superbikers are also expected to add to the excitement and Stephen Vieira, Ricardo Fagundes and Carey Griffith will be looking to add more excitement to the day’s proceedings.
Additionally, race fans will have the opportunity to witness the Porta Tree Timing System which is equipped with specialized starting lights that allow quarter mile speeds to be recorded.
Races commence at 09:00 hrs and admission for adults is $1000, while children are $500 and vehicles free.
Meanwhile, GT&T, Fly Jamaica, Universal Communications, Carlsberg Beer, Rent-a-Tent, AR. Jiwanram, Fanatix Designs, T&R Seafoods and Ganesh Parts and General Store are among the major sponsors.
