Over 100 entries expected in $10M Easter Sunday horserace meet at Port Mourant
Organised by the Port Mourant Turf Club in collaboration with the Jumbo Jet
Strom Bird, who has been in excellent form will look to continue its dominance in the three year old category.
Business Enterprise, the Annual Guyana Cup Fever meet is getting hotter by the day. The event is the richest on the horseracing calendar for the year so far with over $10M up for grabs including cash, trophies and other goodies with seven action packed races listed on the programme. Over 55 of the top horses in the country have taken entry with the major stables already on board.
With confirmation being made that the feature event will now be for horses classified A1 and lower with the likes of Score’s Even and C.P Got Even set to renew their rivalry with Curfew Tower, Jack In My Style and Run Nana Run, Lady Budapest among others, preparations are getting hotter.
Word from the organiser also is that the record breaking Diplomatic Cat, which suffered flight problems and could not be in Guyana in time for the ‘Clash of the Titans’ race meet last week end, will definitely be here.
According to Inshan Bacchus of the Bacchus stable, who has acquired the horses, twice the animal went to the airport and boarded the plane in Trinidad and was ready to travel when the plane developed mechanical problems and could not make it.
It will definitely be here this time and Score’s Even and C.P Got Even and all the others will be in for a rough time.
The feature A1 and lower event will be going over a distance of 1800M for a whopping $1.2M and trophy. Many turfites were not too convinced in the way Score’s Even won the event with some saying if it was not for some spectators on the track C.P Got Even would have won. Those questions and more will be answered on Easter Sunday.
The D1 and Lower event will now be classified D3 and lower over 1600M for a winning take of $800,000 and trophy. Turfites are also eager to see this event again. With the speed shown by Tiz a Holiday one week ago and the likes of the speedy Spit Fire, Just Call Me Boss, Unsettled, last race winner Swing Easy and introducing for the first time Big Man Boss, turfites will be in for a double treat.
The other equally impressive events listed on the programme are – The F1 and lower 1200M event which will also feature animals classified three year old West Indies and Guyana bred, colts, fillies, mares and up for a total prize of $ 940,000 and trophy.
The G3 and lower event will also feature West Indies and Guyana bred colts, fillies, 3 yrs old and up. The distance is 1200M for a combined purse of $750,000 and trophy.
There is an event for West Indies and Guyana bred three year old animals including colts and fillies also for a total prize of $940,000 and trophy over 1500M.
The event for Guyana Bred three year old colts, mares and fillies has now been restructured to cater for those I and lower horses for a total prize package of $560,000 and trophy over 1200M. The ‘I’ class event has been dropped.
The final race will be for animals classified J2 and lower and Guyana bred colts, fillies and mares for a total purse of $375,000 over 1200M.
A number of added attractions and giveaways and incentives including free kites will be given away on race day.
